When we bought our house we had planned to have a garden in our large flat back yard. Unfortunately, as we watched our house go up we noticed that our back yard was quite steep and with the covered porch that I had added we would not have "flat" land to create a garden.

All four of us were quite disappointed. We were eager for the experience and the convenience of home grown fruits/vegetables. P came up with the idea of doing "tiered" gardening and I jumped on once I was able to envision the project. Today (Sunday) we bit the bullet and bought the soil, wood frames/stakes, seeds, and peet moss at 5pm. We decided it was a now or never project and dug right in.

I found a positive to having a home built in the winter; the sod and plants do not have the proper conditions to root themselves and are easily moved to new homes. We debated the locations and then I started rolling and pulling sod up. It took approximately two x three sod squares to reach our desired size of each plot. With 4 plots we were left with 48 sod squares that need a new home. I eagerly placed the first 24 in the front yard where the builder doomed us insurmountable amounts of mulch (I HATE mulch).

Our four plots are free of sod and sitting pretty with a mix of peet moss, soil, and compost mix (bought at our favorite home improvement store). We will be planting the seeds this week and completing the framing of the gardens. I personally can't wait to see how well this experiment works. I'm sure that R and I will spend a lot of time outside pulling weeds and watering the garden. I'm hoping this will offset our grocery shopping budget too. Maybe, I'll try to do some pickling and other projects with the bounty of goodies we will hopefully reap.

I will try to get pictures of the project tomorrow. That is, if I can move. I am so sore... The exercise is good for me.. I just need to remember to keep it consistent.

Today feels like it should be the end of a strenuous week. Instead it is Wednesday and I have done very little yet I feel like a Mac Truck hit me. I woke up this morning (late again.. ) to see T and P off to work. It's always nice because I encourage P to sit down with me in the morning and have a parents only breakfast. After breakfast P got his stuff together and I sat on the front porch in my bathrobe. It's cool yet not bone chilling today and it was refreshing for the 5 minutes I allowed myself. Why only 5 minutes? Because I could barely sit up and really wanted to crawl into my warm bed even if R was hogging 80% of it. So I was back asleep by 730 and slept until 900 (minus a restroom run)when R eagerly requested Pancakes with syrup and chocolate milk. I gave her all of it after 5 minutes of nagging on her behalf. I knew something was wrong them because I never give chocolate milk out with breakfast. I made sure she was satisfied and made myself a protein smoothie hoping it would give me a bounce. Nope, I was headed for the bed before 930. R was safely watching Noggin (oh how I love you) and Riley was asleep on his bed.. Until 1045 when the construction crew started next door. The house shook and shook and the dog barked and barked. I gave in and told myself a shower would be a great option. I felt better after and managed to make us a decent lunch.. but I have no energy to do anything other than that. I could try to lay down but the construction trucks and barking dog would not allow that to happen.

What happened to me?? I want some energy back! Hmm.. Maybe a starbucks run would refresh me?

I wanted to put a positive spin on the day, week, and month. I can do that today because I have started to feel the positives of not working.

-We had great day out as a family on Saturday and other than eating out we didn't spend a bunch of money.
-Sunday I went to CVS and saved a bundle and hope to do better next week. I'm working on being just a frugal with my grocery items as I am with clothing.
-Sunday afternoon disappeared with me not really knowing where it went. SWEET... I haven't had a day like that in forever
-P set up the Satellite receiver in our bedroom. Yeah for non-dvd watching!
-We went to bed before 10pm last night
-I was up at 0615 to make breakfast for the boys before thy were off to work and school.
- I didn't sit down until 0830... (yes, this makes me happy) because I folded laundry, spot cleaned the floor, straightened the kitchen. After a brief break I vacuumed the upstairs. Go me! Mondays used to be about me finding ways to sleep more/longer.

R and I are waiting for T to get home. We need to go to the grocery store and hopefully I can make good use of these coupons that I've clipped. The furniture store that no one should ever go to is supposed to call about fixing T's bedroom set for the second time.
